A Career Talk on Society, Industry, and Sustainable Development
We were honoured to welcome a distinguished guest speaker to our "Society and Career" session, Mr. Dai Hoshiai, Managing Director of .
Mr. Hoshiai has also been appointed Chairman of both the Japanese School in Kuala Lumpur and the Japan Club Kuala Lumpur.
An alumnus of the University of Tsukuba, Mr. Hoshiai graduated from the College of Agriculture and Forestry and previously resided in the Hirasuna dormitory.
ITOCHU, one of the leading sogo shosha (general trading companies), traces its origins to 1858 when its founder, Chubei Itoh, began linen trading. Over the past 150 years, ITOCHU has grown significantly, with approximately 90 offices in 61 countries, including Japan.
The company is involved in a broad range of sectors such as textiles, machinery, metals, minerals, energy, chemicals, food, general products, real estate, ICT, and finance, as well as business investment both in Japan and internationally.
In his talk “The Role of Companies in Achieving a Sustainable Society and the Required Human Resources”, Mr. Hoshiai shared memorable experiences from his time as a student at University of Tsukuba, offering invaluable insights into his career.
He also shared valuable insights with the students on the importance of contributing to society, understanding economic activities, fostering societal prosperity, and the role of sustainable development.
Mr. Hoshiai concluded his speech by expressing his high expectations for our students’ bright futures.
We believe that this inspiring career talk has motivated our students and provided them with valuable perspectives on how to design their own futures.
