"Evening Reception with President Kyosuke NAGATA" Held in Malaysia

On March 3, 2024, six months before the opening of the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMY), the second event in the series entitled “An Evening Reception with President Kyosuke NAGATA” was held at Kuala Lumpur, co-sponsored by the University's Business Development Promotion Office, Malaysian Branch Campus Preparation Office and Office of Global Initiatives Bureau.

A total of 60 people from government agencies, local Japanese companies, ALEPS (Alumni Look East Policy Society), and JAGAM (Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia) were invited to the event, which was held to deepen partnership between University of Tsukuba, UTMY, and local Japanese companies and local community. From UT, President Kyosuke NAGATA and Vice President Yasunori KANAHO (in charge of industry-academia collaboration) attended thorough online. Special adviser to the president Toshiyuki INAGAKI and Executive Officer Maki TSUJIMURA (in charge of International Education Initiative) were among the attendees.

In the first part of the lecture, President NAGATA spoke about the university's initiatives after opening remarks of Vice President KANAHO. Executive Officer TSUJIMURA also gave an overview of UTMY. Special advisor to the president INAGAKI also expressed his gratitude to all the guests in place of President NAGATA, who participated online.

At the beginning of the second part, Mr. Takero SAWAMURA, President of the Japanese Chamber of Trade & Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM), gave a speech as a representative of the companies. He said “I have high expectations that the overseas expansion of the UT will play a leading role in Japanese-style higher education and enhance Japan's presence in overseas”.

Through the event, there was a positive exchange of information between the invitees and UT side. UT and UTMY will continue to strengthen its ties with local companies, organizations, and community in preparation for the opening of the Malaysian campus.
